Wellington Place, Leeds city centre’s thriving business hub, has welcomed a new occupant to its buildings. In yet another case of a company investing in Leeds property and making the move to the city, Flutter Entertainment will bring 1,700 employees to 4 Wellington Place.
An innovation hub
The £15million new hub at Wellington Place will become a centre of innovation and technology in the city. It will progress key areas such as software engineering, product development and research and insight.
Sky Betting and Gaming – one of Flutter Entertainment’s leading brands – will also house their ‘Skills Academy’ here. This initiative provides early-career opportunities and a Kickstart scheme for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Leeds is already one of the UK’s biggest hubs for digital and creative industries outside of London. The move from Flutter Entertainment comes soon after another scheme to make Leeds the capital of innovation too. Business advisory firm KPMG recently announced a partnership with the University of Leeds to encourage investment in innovation and entrepreneurship in the city.
A significant investment
Flutter Entertainment’s new location at 4 Wellington Place is a significant investment in property for the company. The flexible working spaces will be spread across eight floors totalling 136,000 sq ft.
Acting as a hub for Flutter Entertainments brands across the UK and Ireland, the headquarters will help to drive innovation across the globe, while creating excellent employment opportunities and investment throughout the local region.
A positive force for Leeds
Conor Grant, CEO of Flutter Entertainment UK and Ireland commented: “Our new office in Leeds is our vision for the future of working and we are excited to welcome our colleagues to this modern, agile and flexible workspace.
“The entire Flutter Group has benefited greatly from the leading technology capabilities we have developed in Leeds through our talented and highly skilled workforce, and this investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to both the city and our colleagues.
“We will also continue to be a positive force in the communities we serve, with our Skills Academy and Kickstart scheme offering exciting opportunities for young people to develop their skills.”
Benefits for investors
Landlords with a Leeds property investment could benefit from Flutter Entertainment’s move in two ways: growing rental demand and a stronger economy.
It is likely a number of young professionals will move to the region to take advantage of the newly available skilled jobs in the creative and digital sectors. And with the gap between rental demand and supply the highest it’s been in almost a decade, any additional demand will increase rental yields generated from Leeds property investments.
A growing jobs market and increased investment into the city also means a strong economy. This is especially important when investing in property as it points to good rental yields and high capital growth.
