Wellington Place is an exciting new urban quarter in the heart of Leeds. Developed by MEPC, the 22-acre scheme is situated in the sought-after LS1 postcode just a short walk from the city’s amenities and transport hub.
Employment Hub in Wellington Place, Leeds
This new district will establish a vibrant community of 16,000 people all living and working in the area. Already an employment hub, Wellington Place is currently home to over 30 businesses including Sky Betting & Gaming, HMRC and Shulmans.
Newly confirmed developments at Wellington Place will bring even more top companies to Leeds city centre. MEPC were recently granted permission for six further development plots to add to the over 860,000 sqft already available. Three of these new buildings will be in prime locations overlooking the River Aire.
As well as office space, Wellington Place also boasts a huge amount of retail and leisure facilities. There will be a wide variety of shops, bars and eateries for city centre locals and visitors to enjoy. For wellness and relaxation, a spa, gyms and various clubs are also based here. There is even free bike rental, secure cycle storage, urban gardens, and an activity-filled outdoor courtyard.
As well as a place to work, shop and relax, Wellington Place will become somewhere for people to live and stay while visiting Leeds. MEPC have announced plans for 200 apartment units all set in a carefully curated space. A 230-bedroom hotel has also been confirmed, along with a 500-space multi-storey car park featuring electric vehicle charging points, accessible spaces and car share facilities.
The wide pedestrianised boulevards and avenues throughout the development encourage people to spend time at Wellington Place. They also help create a calming atmosphere, so everyone can enjoy their visit to the area.
Phase One of Wellington Place is Complete
With phase one of the project already complete, work on phase two is due to begin in early 2020. This phase will be the construction of 12 Wellington Place, the tallest building on the development at ten stories high. It will comprise a mix of office, retail, and leisure space, and plans submitted for approval include a metallic bronze facade, a roof terrace and avenues of trees.
As one of the largest regeneration projects in the region, Wellington Place is bringing a total investment of £600 million to the centre of Leeds. Such a huge economic boost will help establish Leeds as one of the fastest-growing and most exciting cities in the UK.
