KPMG and the University of Leeds Partnership to Encourage Leeds Investments and Job Growth

Written on .

Business advisory firm KPMG and the University of Leeds have joined forces to bring more investment and jobs to the city. The new strategic partnership has already launched and will focus on entrepreneurship and the scaling-up of high-growth businesses.

    Supporting business growth

Leeds is already a hotspot for businesses and innovation. This new strategic partnership will help cement Leeds as an investment hub for businesses and development alike.

The partnership is between KPMG and the university’s innovation hub, Nexus. They will work together to support a number of initiatives to support business growth across Leeds.

The joint programme of support between KPMG and Nexus includes providing knowledge and expertise, sharing best practice, hosting tailored support sessions, driving innovation and making their city centre offices available to Nexus members.

    Leaders in innovation

With a strong record for innovation excellence and top-class research, the University of Leeds was an easy choice of partner for KPMG.

Euan West, the office senior partner at KPMG said the partnership “made sense” and that they wanted “to harness our collective strengths to help support and grow innovative businesses in Yorkshire.”

KPMG’s Leeds investment into nurturing the city’s businesses is only the first in KPMG’s plans to partner with universities across the country. In fact, they also recently announced a partnership with the University of Nottingham which will focus on advanced data analytics.

    A city full of talent

With large numbers of students in Leeds and a high graduate retention rate, the city has plenty of talent to be developed into the business leaders of the future. The partnership between KPMG and the University of Leeds will help access this talent to support growth in the local economy.

Dr Martin Stow, Nexus Director, said, “Leeds City region is a great place for entrepreneurs to start up and scale an innovative business and the University of Leeds is proud to be an integral part of this ecosystem, alongside partners like KPMG.”

    An investment into the future

Such a Leeds investment is an investment into the future of the UK. And as Dr Stow explained, the KPMG collaboration with Nexus will only strengthen its outlook. He said the partnership would “build a supportive network that inspires entrepreneurs to solve the biggest challenges facing our society today.”

And with much of the innovation coming out of the University of Leeds being at the centre of the country’s economic recovery following the pandemic, this partnership is likely to have a long-lasting impact that reaches far wider than Leeds.
