The broadcaster Sky has opened new offices in a site in the heart of Leeds. This move will create hundreds of new jobs for the city, leading to new Leeds investments.
An exciting new chapter- Leeds investments
The move to the new site at No.1 Leeds in Whitehall Road is great news for Leeds investments and the city as a whole.
It is part of Sky’s strategy to improve its customer service. This has been described as “the start of an exciting chapter” for the company.
Once fully operational, the offices will house 500 new customer service roles across two floors; with new roles still to be recruited. They will support customers across a range of Sky products including Sky Broadband, Sky Mobile and Sky TV.
Further employment prospects
The creation of hundreds of new jobs at Sky in Leeds is part of the company’s wider plan to generate 1,000 new roles across the UK.
With so many of these new jobs based in Leeds, buy-to-let landlords with a Leeds investment are well positioned to house Sky staff new to the city.
Stephen van Rooyen, CEO of Sky UK and Ireland, said of the recruitment drive. “Together with our expanded team in Leeds, these 1,000 new employees are a real testament to Sky’s commitment to customer service and investment to create a diverse workforce right across the UK.”
An increasing portfolio
The new No.1 Leeds office is just the latest in Sky’s growing Leeds investment portfolio. It adds to their current portfolio comprising [email protected] Dock and the Sky Studios ‘Innovation Hub’.
The Innovation Hub focuses on talent development, new content experiences and scripted partnerships; whereas [email protected] Dock is the location of Sky’s tech centre. Leeds is one of Europe’s fastest growing digital media hubs. Therefore, it is no surprise that Sky has decided to expand further into the city.
With both Sky and Channel 4 having made Leeds investments a major part of their recent strategies, more national policymakers are now becoming aware of Leeds as a creative centre in the UK.
Hundreds of millions of pounds of planned projects are commencing in the city. Leeds is quickly becoming the go-to place for professionals keen to progress their careers.
Stephen van Rooyen said on the subject. “If you look at what companies like Channel 4 have done, and what we’ve done, it’s becoming clear that a place to invest and a place to find great talent is….the North.
“The investment that we are making is based on the idea that we can find great talent and great opportunities here.”
