Property portal Rightmove has named the Leeds area of Horsforth as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK, as property hunters flock there after lockdown.
The website looked at which neighbourhoods had the most people sign up for alerts about properties there, which is a good early indicator of buyer demand. And not only did Horsforth come in 5th place – it was also the only part of Yorkshire to make the list.
Affluent and in demand
Horsforth is an area of Leeds popular with both home owners and those seeking property investment opportunities. All of this demand has had an impact on house prices, with the average property price growing by over £20,000 over the past year, now sitting at £312,460.
In fact, Horsforth has some of Leeds’ most expensive properties, with some selling for over £1million.
So what is it about Horsforth that is driving so many people to the Leeds suburb? It is one of the most affluent parts of Leeds, situated close to both the city centre and beautiful open spaces. It’s especially popular for families as it’s in the catchment area for some highly rated schools.
A steady investment
But it’s not just Rightmove’s findings that prove how sought-after Horsforth properties are for investment opportunities and places to live. Richard Hare, a local Horsforth property professional, said that he is surprised if new Horsforth listings get fewer than 20 viewings and properties are often sold within a week.
He went on to say, “The demand completely outweighs the supply at the moment and that’s thanks to the stamp duty extension and mortgage lenders offering low rates, with people being able to purchase a 95 per cent mortgage.
“I would encourage people to move to Horsforth because it is consistently recognised as a great place to live and that means that your house price is only going to cement itself.
“You’re not going to be making a loss on that so it’s always a steady investment.”
