Two Leeds universities have entered into a partnership with a growing, innovative manufacturer to help support the company’s future ambitions.
Both Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds will apply academic expertise in management and business process to the Welsh-based global manufacturer ABER Instruments Ltd. This will further solidify Leeds’ reputation as a centre for innovation and a top location for students.
Two-year partnership
ABER Instruments Ltd manufacture and supply advanced systems for use in the Brewing, Biorenewables and Biotech industry. They count global pharmaceutical and brewing companies including Glaxo SmithKline and Heineken among their customers.
The partnership with the universities takes the form of the two-year Management Knowledge Transfer Partnership (mKTP). This scheme is led by Leeds Beckett University and co-funded by UKRI through Innovate UK and the Welsh Government.
Supporting growth
Dr Catherine Ashworth, senior lecturer in marketing at Leeds Beckett University and academic project leader, explained: “ABER is a rapidly growing company, with many opportunities to develop and innovate new products, to diversify and expand into new markets.
“The company wants to achieve a position where they have a proactive plan for innovation and sustainable growth that fits with their distinct values as an employee-owned (EO) business. We are delighted to be working on this mKTP with Professor Andrew Robinson at the University of Leeds, a leading international expert in EO.
“The aim of the project is to provide ABER with the knowledge to transition into a more structured and sustainable growth-oriented business.”
City of innovation
By choosing universities in Leeds to partner with, ABER Instruments Ltd have helped put Leeds on the map once again as being a city of innovation. Leeds has a strong history of industrial achievements which it continues to grow and develop today.
This is also of benefit to people with a Leeds property investment. It will help boost the city’s economy even further, ensuring that returns from Leeds property investments remain consistent and healthy.
Student properties
The announcement of the new partnership may also have a positive impact for those seeking property investment opportunities in Leeds student property.
Already one of the best cities to invest in student property, the partnership with such a forward-thinking manufacturer could help attract even more STEM students to Leeds.
This will further increase demand for student properties, driving up rental returns and reducing void periods.
What is property investment?
Put simply, property investment is property purchased with the intention of generating financial returns for its buyer. These returns could be in the form of rental income through buy-to-let properties, house price growth through the future sale of the property or both. Property investments can be owned by individuals or organisations and can be short, long or medium term.
