Article Summary

Manchester

Online retail giant Amazon has chosen to base its regional campus outside of London in Manchester city-centre. Amazon’s search for a 70,000 square-foot office, code-named ‘Project Oasis’, has been ongoing since 2017. However now Amazon has chosen Manchester City-Centre for its regional office. Initially, other locations were considered, such as No.8 First Street and Hanover House. But the latter, which is due to complete in September 2018, has since emerged as a favourite.

Major tech design

Manchester has the largest tech cluster outside London with a workforce of almost 52,000 employees, a GVA growth of 93% between 2010 and 2014, and the fourth highest digital turnover in the UK at £2.2 billion which explains why Amazon chose Manchester City-Centre for its regional office.

Drawn by the city’s excellent infrastructure and appealing work-life balance, more and more tech firms are choosing Manchester as a base for their activities. The tech sector now accounts for almost half of all enquiries for office space in the city-centre.

Manchester has a higher employment rate than London and other northern cities. This has resulted in huge demand for high-quality city-centre homes as ever more people flock to the city, thereby establishing a very healthy property market.

What is property investment?

Put simply, property investment is property purchased with the intention of generating financial returns for its buyer. These returns could be in the form of rental income through buy-to-let properties, house price growth through the future sale of the property or both. Property investments can be owned by individuals or organisations and can be short, long or medium term.
