National Geographic has named Manchester the UK’s most exciting cultural hub right now. The magazine says Manchester “has long been a poster child for innovation” and that it is now building on that reputation by “embracing a flurry of openings and makeovers to guide its post-lockdown future.”

Cultural wellbeing

The government acknowledges how “culture brings huge benefits by providing better quality of life and wellbeing within local communities” – and in fact uses the Manchester gallery The Whitworth as an example.

As more people seek to improve their quality of life following the pandemic, they will be looking for places that can give them the best cultural experience. By naming Manchester as the best place for culture in the UK, more people will be encouraged to move to the city, making now a great time to invest in Manchester property.

Cultural highlights

In the report, National Geographic highlights a number of different venues that make Manchester such a cultural gem.

The first of these is the revamp of the Manchester Jewish Museum, which the magazine reports as having “doubled in size thanks to an extension that’s been two years in the making.”

The Science and Industry Museum also features, along with its plan for improving connections with the city and achieving net zero emissions.

Literature and art

But museums aren’t the only venues National Geographic focuses on. There is also the new Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University, which supports Manchester’s credentials as the UNESCO City of Literature.

And if art is more your thing, they call out the immersive, multi-sensory Van Gogh Alive experience at Manchester’s MediaCity.

Future cultural plans

Manchester also has been plans for the future. By using its cultural institutions to continue to draw people to the city to visit and live, investments into Manchester property are a good choice for investors.

In their report, National Geographic emphasise The Factory, a new cultural venue that is due to complete at the end of 2022. This new space will cover the full spectrum of cultural experiences, from exhibitions to performances of dance, music and theatre productions.

Other new openings that will bring people to the city and increase the requirement for investments into Manchester property are the new RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford (which was recently shortlisted for a top regional property award) and the renovation of one of Manchester’s oldest music venues, Band on the Wall.

What is property investment?

Put simply, property investment is property purchased with the intention of generating financial returns for its buyer. These returns could be in the form of rental income through buy-to-let properties, house price growth through the future sale of the property or both. Individuals or organisations can invest in property, and the investments can be short, long or medium term.
