  • Crown Street primary will consist of 4 floors, 8 classrooms and even a roof-top playground.

  • This unique primary school design will create 210 places for primary age children and 26 nursery places; since Manchester has seen a boom in city-centre living over the past couple of decades.

  • Whilst the anticipated completion date for the school is June 2024, construction could begin this August; around the same time, we should see completion for Manchester’s first ‘cylindrical skyscraper’.

Summer 2024 will see Manchester’s first new school in almost 20 years – after funding being approved in October last year. Crown Street primary will consist of 4 floors, 8 classrooms and even a roof-top playground.

The school will be built as a part of The Great Jackson Street development – which is also creating over 3000 new homes, rooftop restaurants and new retail locations, all across six new skyscrapers in the southern corner of Deansgate.

This unique primary school design will create 210 places for primary age children and 26 nursery places; since Manchester has seen a boom in city-centre living over the past couple of decades – this development will come as a relief to local families raising young children in the ever-growing city.

“This is a big moment for Manchester and a big statement on what we want our city centre to be – a family friendly place with lots of homes and jobs for all. People want to make the city centre their home and so it’s important for us to provide the infrastructure they need to enable them to do this through every stage of their lives.” A statement from the Executive Member for Children and Schools for Manchester Council, Coun Gary Bridges.

Plans and £6.2m of council funding for the school were agreed in August 2020, as well as a new public park which the rubber-floored roof-top playground will overlook. Whilst the anticipated completion date for the school is June 2024, construction could begin this August; around the same time, we should see completion for Manchester’s first ‘cylindrical skyscraper’ – Three60, followed closely by The Blade – which will be completed by the end of the year.

New skyscrapers will be seen over the Manchester skyline, with two unique shapes of ‘The Blade’, and ‘The Circle’ (Three60). Both developments are home to a residents lounge, communal space, retail amenities, roof terraces and on-site gyms. The Blade has 52 stories and holds 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments and penthouses. Set to be complete Q4 2024, this development is now 95% sold. Three60 has 51 stories of luxury apartments, which will be complete Q3 2024, and is 70% sold.
