On the 10th of November, the 2022 Manchester Christmas Market officially opened to the public. The main market is situated in Piccadilly gardens, but stalls are spread out over six other separate areas. Market Street, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square, St Ann’s Square, Cathedral Gardens and King Street will be host to Christmas themed stalls, food stalls and even an ice rink.
Best in the UK
The Manchester Christmas Market has been voted as the UK’s best Christmas Market as multiple surveys and studies have shown. One from the website Christmas Tree World analysed data from Instagram and Google, with a focus on which markets attracted the most people and had the highest number of searches. Manchester came out on top with 60,000 searches over the festive period, with Nottingham in second.
Highest number of visitors
It is evident that the market attracts visitors and tourists to the city then, as Manchester welcomed approximately 9 million visitors to their Christmas market in 2020. Garnering over 114,000 Google searches from October 2020-September 2021, it attracted the most online interest in 2020/21 as well as 2021/22.
It surpassed Hyde Park’s world famous Winter Wonderland during this period too, as it only had 82,000 searches.
Stalls, Activities and Food
With over 300 stalls and running for one of the longest periods in the UK, the Manchester Christmas Market has an array of things to do and try to get into the festive spirit. With features such as an ice rink, international food stalls and local crafters and producers selling their products, there is no wonder why the market is so popular.
In addition to this, it will be open everyday (except Christmas) until New Year’s Eve, so there isn’t much reason to not give it a visit if you are in the area!
The range of food is huge as well, with anything from chocolate covered churros to giant marshmallows, or even Yorkshire pudding wraps, there is definitely a food or dessert for anyone.
But in the cold and darkness of winter, there isn’t much else more welcoming than a decorated, lit up tent and a nice hot beverage. The Christmas Market has some lovely tents and warmed-up seating areas for you to enjoy your mulled wine or cider, or some festive-themed spirits.
Places to visit around it
That’s not all though, as the Christmas Market is surrounded by other infamous Manchester restaurants and eateries that offer a variety of different foods. That is, if you aren’t already stuffed from what the market has to offer!
